Understanding the Fuel We Deliver

BioHeat® is a blend of traditional heating oil and renewable biodiesel. The biodiesel component is made from renewable resources such as vegetable oils, recycled cooking oils, animal fats, and other biological feedstocks.

In simple terms, BioHeat is heating oil with a renewable component. It is part of the continuing development of heating fuels toward lower sulfur content and increased use of renewable resources, while remaining compatible with the oil-fired heating equipment used in many homes.

Cleaner-Burning Fuel

BioHeat is a clean-burning fuel and can produce lower emissions of certain pollutants compared with conventional heating oil.

Modern heating oil also contains very low levels of sulfur, which reduces sulfur-related emissions and helps minimize soot and deposits produced during combustion.

When heating equipment is properly installed, maintained, and adjusted for the correct air-to-fuel ratio, clean combustion helps minimize buildup within the system and allows the equipment to operate as designed.

Compatible With Oil Heating Systems

BioHeat is designed to be used in oil-fired boilers and furnaces, allowing homeowners to continue using the heating equipment they already have.

For most homeowners, using BioHeat does not require replacing their boiler, furnace, or other major heating equipment simply because the fuel contains a renewable biodiesel component.

Fuel Performance

BioHeat provides the heat and performance required for residential oil heating systems. The energy content of a gallon can vary somewhat depending on the amount of biodiesel in the blend, but the fuel is formulated for use in conventional oil-heating equipment.

Actual heating performance depends on the condition of the equipment, proper combustion settings, heat-transfer surfaces, and regular maintenance—not simply the BTU content of the fuel.

Proper Maintenance Still Matters

Regardless of the fuel being used, regular heating-system maintenance and safety inspections are important.

A properly maintained system with the correct combustion air, fuel delivery, and air-to-fuel ratio will operate more safely and efficiently while minimizing soot and other combustion-related deposits.
